Gubbio weighed in its power and importance in the beginning of the Middle Ages. The commune of this town sent 1,000 knights to fight in the First Crusade under the lead of Count Girolamo Gabrielli. According to an undocumented local legend, they were the first force to penetrate into the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem when the city was seized by the First Crusade in 1099.  [Ref. Wiki]

| ♕ |  Legend of the Knight Erazem Lueger

Predjama Castle became known in the 15th century as the seat of Knight Erazem Lueger (or Luegger), the owner of the castle and a renowned robber baron. He was the son of the Imperial Governor of Trieste, Nikolaj Lueger.
According to the legend, Erazem came into conflict with the Habsburg royal dynasty, when he killed the commander of the Imperial army Marshall Pappencheim, who had offended the honor of the Erazem’s deceased friend, Andrej Baumkircher of Vipava.
Fleeing from the revenge of the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III, Erazem settled in the family fortress of Predjama (now in Slovenia). He allied himself with the Hungarian king Matthias Corvinus and began to attack Habsburg estates and towns in Carniola. [Read in full on Wiki]
