Late December snow covers the East Hill and roofs of Hastings Old Town. On the top of the East Hill the Funicular railway waits for spring and the arrival of its ice cream van.

Hastings is best known for its connection with the Battle of Hastings in 1066 which actually occurred north of the town at Senlac Hill in Battle.
